CLEVELAND– Kenyon College first-year
Sasha Belova wasted little time making program history. On Tuesday, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) named Belova the Women's Golf Athlete of the Week after she placed first amongst 49 golfers at the Allegheny College's Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational.
Competing in the second tournament of the program's history, Belova finished with a two-round score of 144. Her performance alone powered the Owls to a third-place team finish.
Belova opened the tournament on Sunday at the Country Club of Meadville with a two-over 73, a round that featured two bogeys, a double bogey, and two birdies. That score left her tied for the lead heading into the final round. She returned Monday and delivered a steady one-under 71, carding three birdies against two bogeys to secure the outright victory.
With Belova's strong play leading the way, the Owls posted a team score of 335 in the first round before etching ten strokes on Monday with a 325. The two-day total of 660 moved Kenyon into third place overall.
Belova's medalist finish marks the first in the young history of Kenyon women's golf and showcases a promising start for the inaugural team.
