FARMINGTON, Pa. -- The Kenyon College women's golf team traveled to play in a talented Tartan Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon University at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. The Owls played Shepard's Rock, a 5,633 yard par 72 golf course finishing in 12th place out of 18 teams. In a record breaking weekend the Owls shot 927 (+63) through 54 holes while setting their 18-hole record in round two shooting 305 (+17). The 54 hole event held 11 ranked squads Division III WGCA (Women's Golf Coaches Association) Coaches Poll as well as two conference opponents. After beating both Denison and DePauw the Owls cemented themselves among the top teams in the country.
Sasha Belova continued a dominant run to start the fall for the Owls finishing in T27 position. Belova was a model for consistency, shooting 224 (+8) in the mist at Nemacolin with long par streaks throughout the tournament. Camryn Nelson bagged a T46 finish in a 98 player field racking up rounds at 78-75-77 through 54 holes. Nelson's 14 over par finish was not complete without the four birdies she drained at Shepard's Rock.
Claire Liu was the next finisher for the Owls turning in scorecards for a 231 (+15) at the Tartan. Liu posted one of the best back nines in the tournament, carding a 32 (-3) in round two as well as a front nine of 36 (-1) in round three.
Jane Fanning and Demi Hampilos took the final two spots for Kenyon with a 246 (+30) finish for Hampilos and a 243 (+27) showing for Fanning. Both players posted counting scores throughout the tournament with Hampilos draining three birdies. Fanning finished round two with an eagle on the 16th hole.
The Owls finish their fall season at the Clovernook Intercollegiate on October 12, at the Clovernook Country Club.
