Owls place third in tight race at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's indoor track and field team registered five event wins Saturday, scored a total of 76 points, and finished third in tight competition at The College of Wooster Fighting Scots Invitational.

Denison University ended up winning the Invitational with 89 team points, host Wooster was second with 84 points, and Kenyon was third, just 13 points away from the top spot.

Individual event wins for Kenyon came from senior Anna Brown, sophomore Ari Sobel, and sophomore Lucie Prior. Brown topped a field of six in the mile run, posting a winning time of 5:13.05. Two events later, Sobel finished first in the 400-meter race, clocking in at 1:00.44, just about four seconds faster than second-place finisher and teammate Addilyn Tober (1:04.57).

Prior then headed up a Kenyon sweep in the 3,000-meter run, an event she completed in 11:24.81. Following behind Prior was Cassidy Kaler in second place (11:42.50), Isabel Prosnitz in third (12:11.37), and Turner Clark in fourth (12:12.36).

The Owls also logged a pair of wins in relay competition. The team's 4x200-meter relay quartet of Noa Helmbrecht, Tober, Georgia Yatrakis, and Sobel whipped up a winning time of 1:47.86, which was not too far off the program record of 1:47.21 set in the 2012 season. At the end of the meet, Helmbrecht, Tober, and Sobel added Caeleigh Stamper to the lineup and they won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:16.43.

Helmbrecht and Yatrakis also made an impact in the 60-meter dash with Helmbrecht taking second place in 8.18 and Yatrakis taking third in 8.45. Yatrakis would later go on to run down second place in the 200-meter dash by crossing the line in 27.52. Two events earlier, Stamper claimed third place in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:42.52.

In field events, Kenyon racked up 11 points from throwers Penelope Artemis and Kenna Kinsch. Artemis, a sophomore, placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 42-5 ¼ (12.93 meters) and took fourth in the shot put, with a best attempt that measured 34-7 ¾ (10.56 meters). Kinsch, a first-year, was fifth in the weight throw and sixth in the shot put. Her respective marks were 37-7 ¼ (11.46 meters) and 29-8 ¾ (9.06 meters).

The Owls other field-event points came from junior Sadie Olson, who placed fourth in the long jump, covering 13-6 (4.11 meters).
