Kenyon puts up strong performance at Steemer Showcase

SPRINGFIELD, OH – Coming off of solid finishes in Wooster over the past two weeks, the Kenyon College women's track and field team traveled to Wittenberg University for the Steemer Showcase on Saturday afternoon. 

The Owls put up several good times amongst a massive field of 21 teams. After all the events shook out, the team amassed 12 points, good enough for 16th place. 

On the track, one of Kenyon's best finishes of the day came in the 800. Anna Brown made her two rounds of the track in 2:16.44, which placed her third out of 52 runners. Posting another third place finish to tie for the team's best was the 4x400 relay team of Brown, Noa Helmbrecht, Ari Sobel and Addi Tober, who turned in a 4:07.69 time in a field of 17 teams. 

Another strong event for the Owls was the 400, where the team turned in a pair of top 20 finishes. Sobel led the way with a 1:01.00 finish, which put her 14th. Not far behind, Tober rounded the track in 1:01.58, which slotted her three spots behind in 17th in a field of 55 runners. 

Shortening up the distance to 200 meters, Noa Helmbrecht gave Kenyon a 15th place finish, clocking in at 26.63 out of 55 runners. Georgia Yatrakis and Tober also competed for the Owls, finishing in 27.28 and 27.29, which slotted them 29th and 37th respectively. 

In the distance events, Olivia Ide headlined Kenyon's efforts with a strong performance in the 5000 meter, the first race of the day. The junior clocked in at 18:56.11, which put her 17th out of 40 runners.  

Penelope Artemis led the Owls in the field events, posting top 20 finishes in the shot put and weight throw. Her 12.63 meter (41-5 ¼) toss slotted her in 15th in the weight throw, and the first year backed it up with a 18th place finish in the shot put, firing the stone 10.64 meters (34-11). Kenna Kirsch also posted solid distances in both events, taking 29th in the weight throw with a 11.61 meter (38-1 ¼) mark and 30th in the shot put with a 9.83 meter (32-3) mark. 

Sadie Olson rounded out Kenyon's field scores with a 30th place finish in the long jump, where she leapt to a 4.40 meter (14-5 ¼) distance.

In the end, Kenyon's 12 points put them in 16th out of 21 teams. Cedarville University took home the top spot with 120 points, while the University of Indianapolis finished second with 84 points and Ohio Wesleyan University rounded out the podium with 78 points. 

Up next, the Owls will head to Granville, OH for the Denison Invitational on Saturday, February 7 at 11:00 a.m.
