NCAC names Blackmer its Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND – After putting together a record-breaking performance at Ashland University this weekend, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) named Kenyon College sophomore Charlie Blackmer its Athlete of the Week for men's distance events.

Blackmer competed in the mile race at the Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational this weekend hosted by Ashland. His 4:13.95 time earned eighth place in the race of 72 runners and broke the Kenyon program record for an indoor mile by nearly five seconds, which was set at 4:18.84 by Jim Boston in 2007.

The record is not the first he's broken this season. Two weeks ago at the Steemer Showcase, Blackmer broke the program's 800 meter record and teamed up to take down the program best mark in the 4x400 relay.

The award marks the second of Blackmer's career and the second of the season for the Kenyon team. Blackmer and the rest of the Owls will compete in the All-Ohio Championships next Saturday, February 14 from Otterbein University in Westerville.
