Blackmer, distance runners shine at All-Ohio Championships

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Running in the penultimate meet before the 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Kenyon College men's track and field competed in the All-Ohio Championship on Saturday afternoon hosted by Otterbein College. 

The Owls posted several great scores for the day particularly in the distance events, amassing 25 points en route to a ninth place finish out of 16 teams. 

Charlie Blackmer logged Kenyon's lone win of the afternoon, coming away victorious in the 800 meter. His 1:55.47 score bested the field of 20 runners. Two other Owls added strong finishes in the 800, as Champ Blose sped to a 2:02.56 finish, good for 11th place, while Dylan Ryzar took 14th and finished in 2:03.63. 

The Owls' highest point scoring event of the meet came in the 3000 meter, where three runners finished inside the top 10. Colt Murphy led the trio with a third place finish, earning 6 points for his team with a 8:46.35 time. Two more points were awarded to Owen Rodstrom, who finished in 8:56.43 and seventh place. Caleb Low rounded out the bunch with a 8:57.73 mark, ending in 8th place. 

In the mile, Charlie Menzel added another top five finish as the sophomore took fourth in the mile with a 4:47.47 race. 

Another strong event for Kenyon was the 5000 meter, where Jackson Beemer was the best finisher for the Owls at 15:47.61, placing him eighth on the leaderboard. Joshua Breard was not far behind in tenth place with a 15:50.03 mark and Noah Hopkins took 14th at 16:07.37.

JT Casarico was the Owls' lone representative in the field events for the meet, where he took 19th in the long jump with a 5.52 meter (18-1 ¼) leap. 

In the end, Baldwin Wallace University took the top spot, totaling 124.50 points. Ohio Wesleyan University finished second with 77 points, while Otterbein College (76), Ohio Northern University (62) and Capital University (54) rounded out the top five. 

Kenyon will host the final meet of the season before the NCAC's, welcoming teams for the Kenyon Tune Up on Friday, February 20 at 4:00 p.m. from Toan Indoor Track in Gambier.
