GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The No. 16 Kenyon College Women's Tennis team faced its toughest test of the season Saturday afternoon, traveling to DePauw University for a neutral-site matchup against top-ranked Washington University in St. Louis Women's Tennis. The Owls battled throughout the lineup but ultimately fell to the No. 1 Bears by a final score of 7-0.
Doubles play proved competitive from the start. At No. 1 doubles,
Eleni Lazaridou and
Hana Nouaime delivered Kenyon's highlight of the session, earning a hard-fought 7-5 victory over Caitlin Bui and Eleanor Archer in a match that finished second. The Bears secured the doubles point, however, as Lily Brecknock and Samantha Slowik claimed a 6-1 win over
Maya Stolarsky and
Clare Hudson at No. 3 doubles, and the No. 2 pairing of Ally Lin and Eliana Hanna edged
Shadia Amado Aguad and
Kiara Komlodi, 7-5, in a tightly contested matchup.
In singles play, the Owls continued to compete against one of the nation's deepest lineups. At No. 1 singles, Lazaridou took the opening set from Hanna, 6-3, before Hanna responded with a 6-3 second set to force a 10-point match tiebreak. The Bears' Hanna ultimately prevailed, 10-7, in the deciding breaker. At No. 2 singles, Archer defeated Komlodi, 6-1, 6-1, while at No. 3, Bui topped Nouaime, 7-5, 6-2. Lin secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Aguad Amado at No. 4, Brecknock defeated Hudson, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5, and Nina Moravek rounded out the scoring with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Stolarsky at No. 6.
Up next, the Owls head to Orlando, Florida, for a five-match spring break slate, opening play Wednesday, March 4, against No. 12 Carnegie Mellon University.
