Owls tally six event wins at Kenyon Tune Up

GAMBIER, Ohio – Hosting the final meet of the season before the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship, the Kenyon College men's track and field team welcomed teams from around the conference on Friday night for the Kenyon Tune Up.

The Owls were able to tally six wins for the evening, posting four wins across field events and two more on the track in the home meet.

Kashi Tomic gave Kenyon two wins in the jump events, taking first place in the triple jump and long jump. In the triple jump, Tomic's 13.27 meter (43-6 ½) leap was good enough to top the field. He emerged victorious again in the long jump, where he flew to a 6.37 meter (20-10 ¾) mark. Ezekiel Kiwanuka took third in the same event, earning third at 6.26 meters (20-6 ½).

In the pole vault, Noah Bartlett added the team's third field win of the evening, clearing a 3.50 meter (11-5 ¾) bar.

For the throwing events, Graham Yeager added a first and a second place finish in the weight throw and shot put, respectively. His first place finish in the weight throw came by way of a 13.05 meter (42-9 ¾) toss. His 12.30 meter (11-5 ¾) throw was good enough for second place. Henry Thill was not far behind in both events, placing third in the shot put with a 10.87 meter (35-8) put and third in the weight throw, reaching 12.19 meters (40-0).

On the track, the distance events were where the Owls shined the brightest. Charlie Menzel led the pack in the mile with a 4:27.52 time. Not far behind in third place was Jackson Beemer, who rounded the track in 4:42.01.

After his win in pole vault, Bartlett came back later in the meet to post third in the 400, making his two laps in 54.37 seconds.

Perhaps Kenyon's best race of the night was the 3000 meter, where the team swept the podium, a first for the evening. Noah Berg took home the top spot with 9:11.70, topping the field of nine. Joshua Breard finished runner up with 9:14.18 and John Coffin rounded out the top three with 9:27.44.

The NCAC Indoor Championship will begin on Saturday, February 21 with the multi-event championship from Wooster. The final two days of the championship will start on Friday, February 27 from Springfield.
