Owls finish strong at annual tune-up

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's track and field team wrapped up the indoor regular season Friday evening, hosting the annual Kenyon Tune-Up and welcoming The College of Wooster to Toan Indoor Track. Competing in seven events across the meet, the Owls used the final regular-season opportunity to sharpen their marks before the upcoming NCAC Multi-Event Championship and NCAC Championship.

The evening began in the field events, where senior Sadie Olson led Kenyon in the long jump with a runner-up leap of 4.49 meters. In the throws, sophomore Penelope Artemis delivered a strong showing, placing second in the shot put with a mark of 11.69 meters and third in the weight throw at 13.47 meters, a new career-high. First-year Kenna Kinsch added marks of 7.49 meters in the shot put and 10.73 meters in the weight throw.

Turning to the track, the Owls made an immediate impact in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Noa Helmbrecht won the event in 8.06, while sophomore Ari Sobel followed in 8.20. First-year Georgia Yatrakis added depth with an 8.23 finish.

Sobel returned later in the 200 meters and delivered one of the highlight performances of the night, winning the event in a career-best 26.62, surpassing her previous top time of 26.69. Helmbrecht followed closely in 26.68 to give Kenyon a 1-2 finish, while Yatrakis (27.50) and Addi Tober (27.80) contributed solid efforts.

In the 400 meters, senior Caeleigh Stamper paced Kenyon with a third-place finish in 1:06.08, and sophomore Claire Pruner crossed in 1:07.93.
Distance action closed the track events with a strong showing in the mile. First-year Turner Clark captured the event title in 5:52.20, eclipsing her previous career-best of 6:09.08. Sophomore Cassidy Kaler followed with a 5:57.69 effort, giving the Owls two top-three finishes in the event.

Up next, the Owls head to The College of Wooster for the NCAC Multi-Event Championship on Sunday, February 22, before shifting their focus to the NCAC Indoor Championship, scheduled for February 27-28 in Springfield, Ohio.
