CLEVELAND, Ohio – The North Coast Athletic Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for February 24, with junior Alejandro Gonzalez earning Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors following a dominant two-match stretch.
Gonzalez was instrumental in Kenyon's 6-1 victory over Centre College on Friday, opening the weekend with a 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles alongside senior Paulo Pocasangre Kreling. The pair set the tone early, securing the top doubles point in a tightly contested match.
Both followed that performance Saturday against No. 33 Washington and Lee University with another statement showing. Gonzalez and Pocasangre Kreling earned a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, extending their current win streak to three matches and improving to 5-3 as a tandem this season.
In singles play, Gonzalez was in complete control. Competing at the top of the lineup, he delivered a 6-0 opening set before finishing the match 6-3. The victory pushed his overall singles record to 8-1 and marked his third consecutive win.
Gonzalez and the Owls will now shift their focus to a classic NCAC showdown, traveling to Wabash College this Saturday, February 28, with first serve set for 11:00 a.m.
