Kenyon men start season at Denison Invite

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's tennis team, which finished the 2025-26 campaign as the No. 11-rank squad in NCAA Division III, opened the 2026-27 season the weekend in the Denison University Invitational.

The three-day event was interrupted multiple times by rain and the Owls wound up competing Friday and Saturday, but not Sunday. During those two days, the team posted a combined record of 7-16 in singles play and 1-3 in doubles play against the likes of No. 4-ranked Denison, No. 5-ranked Case Western Reserve University, No. 9-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, and No. 31-ranked DePauw University.

Things did not get off to a good start for the Owls, who went head-to-head in seven singles matches with Denison on Friday and lost all seven.

When the team turned the page to Saturday, singles play went much better, as six Owls combined for seven wins. Leading the way was senior Gianluca Bocanegra, who topped Case Western Reserve's Harrison Glickstein, 6-1, 6-3, and then defeated Glickstein's teammate, Glen Ngo, by the exact score.

Those Kenyon players who logged one singles win on Saturday included Maximo Llamas Castellanos, Alejandro Gonzalez, Jay Kedar Dixit, Jonah Ng, and Aditya Shah.

Doubles matches were also played out Saturday with the Owls going 1-3. The lone doubles win for Kenyon came from the duo of Bocanegra and Llamas Castellanos. They defeated Case Western Reserve's pairing of Ethan Jacob and Trey Lambright by a count of 6-1.

The Kenyon men have just two other events on their fall schedule. The team's top players will go to Indianapolis in early October to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championship, while the reserves will head back to Denison to participate in the Big Red Invitational.
