Murphy, DMR highlight NCAC day-one results

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Kenyon College Owls scored 10 points and set one record Friday in what was the first day of the two-day 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, being held at Wittenberg University.

Those 10 points, combined with the six points that senior Josh Greville tallied for his third-place finish in last weekend's heptathlon, gave the Owls a total of 16 points and a tie for fifth place in the nine-team standings.

Friday's schedule included plenty of preliminary heats, to go along with final heats for four events. The final heats were held in two distance runs and two field events. Kenyon's best output came from the two distance runs.

In the 5,000-meter race, senior Colt Murphy captured a third-place showing and collected five team points. He clocked in at 15:07.68, which was more than 20 seconds faster than his previous best. Murphy's classmate, Owen Rodstrom, took an eighth-place finish in the same race and tacked on one more team point after he crossed the line in 15:19.82, which was also a personal best.

In the distance medley relay, Kenyon's team of four clocked in at 10:26.02 to nail down fifth place. That time was a Kenyon record, topping the previuos mark of 10:29.52 set in the 2002 season. The Owls who made up that record-setting relay team included Dylan Ryznar, Julius Thompson, Champ Blose, and Charlie Menzel.

In Friday's two field events, the long jump and the weight throw, the Owls were unable to earn any more team points. In the long jump, Kenyon's best was an 11th-place finish from first-year Kashi Tomic, who covered 20-11 ¼ (6.38 meters). In the weight throw, the team's best was a 16th-place effort from sophomore Graham Yeager, who registered a toss of 45-8 (13.92 meters). That, too, was a personal record for Yeager.

The championship meet will resume Saturday with field events kicking off at 10 a.m. and running events beginning at 2:30 p.m.
