Blackmer breaks record, improves qualifying bid

CHESTER, Penn. -- Continuing to run in qualifier meets, Kenyon College sophomore Charlie Blackmer had a productive Monday evening at the Widener University Final Qualifier, where he clocked in at 3:50.97 and placed 17th among a field of 62 runners in the 1,500-meter run.

That time was not only a personal record, but broke the previous Kenyon record of 3:51.73, which he set himself one month ago at the All-Ohio Championship.

Most importantly, however, was his positioning among other runners across NCAA Division III competition. Going into Monday's run, Blackmer ranked No. 47 in the nation and No. 4 in the region in 1,500-meter competition. After Monday's run, he moved up to No. 41 in the nation and No. 3 in the region.

This week is the final week for qualifying times, so Blackmer will have a better idea of where he stands, in regard to qualifying for the national championship meet, by the end of the week.
