Owls land seventh in final NCAC standings

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Kenyon College sophomore Charlie Blackmer added to an already-impressive track season on Saturday, as he logged a pair of individual runner-up finishes and led the Owls to a seventh-place team finish during the two-day 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship.

The championship, which spanned Friday and Saturday, played out at The Steemer, Wittenberg University's indoor track and field facility. The host Tigers came out on top, winning the conference title with 157 points. Wabash College was second with 144 points, and John Carroll University was third with 111 points in the nine-team field.

As a team, Kenyon scored 24 points on Saturday and Blackmer accounted for 16 of them. The sophomore first earned eight points by placing second in the mile run. He finished his loops in a time of 4:15.76, just about a half second off the winning time. A few events later, Blackmer logged another second-place showing, this time in the 800-meter run. His time of 1:53.27 was good enough for another eight team points. It also was a personal-best time and a Kenyon record, clipping his previous best of 1:53.50.

The Owls collected a few more points in the 3,000-meter race. Seniors Colt Murphy and Owen Rodstrom, after recording points in the 5,000-meter race last night, returned to put a few more tally marks on the Kenyon total. Murphy finished the 3,000 in 8:44.48 to claim fifth place, while Rodstrom crossed the finish line with a seventh-place time of 8:45.27.

In the championship's final event, the 4x400-meter relay, Kenyon earned two more team points for its seventh-place performance. The quartet of Noah Bartlett, Dylan Ryznar, Champ Blose, and Josh Greville finished that race in 3:29.86.

Looking ahead, Kenyon individuals with a chance to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship will most likely move on to next weekend's Polar Bear Qualifier at Ohio Northern University. The rest of the team will take a few weeks off before starting up the outdoor season on March 21.
