Owls get multiple top tens, earn ninth at Bob Shannon

GRANVILLE, Ohio – With the 2026 season over halfway through, the Kenyon College women's track and field team headed to Denison University on Saturday afternoon for the Bob Shannon Invitational, looking to further improve their times and scores as the North Coast Athletic Conference meet draws nearer.

Despite sending a limited field of athletes, the Owls still managed to post several strong finishes and amass 21 points, good enough for ninth out of 12 teams.

Penelope Artemis continued her impressive campaign by leading the Owls in field events, turning in two top ten finishes. Her best came in the shot put, where she hurled an 11.92 meter (31-1 ¼) stone to a third place finish. The shot put mark was also good enough to break the Kenyon indoor record, which was set by Funmilayo Lawal and stood at 11.61 meters (38-1 1/4) since 2016. In the weight throw, her 12.85 meter (42-2) mark was good enough for eighth place.

Kenyon's best finish on the track came from Noa Helmbrecht, who continues to impress in the sprints. She sped to a 8.03 time in the 60 meter dash, good enough for third place in a field of eight. Fellow sprinter Ari Sobel also turned in a strong outing for the Owls, taking seventh in that same 60 meter race with an 8.22 time. She backed it up to 200 meters and turned in a fourth place finish, crossing the line in 27 seconds flat.

Also in the 200, Georgia Yatrakis posted a strong time, making the race in 27.36 seconds which was good enough for eighth place. Kenyon added another solid performance in the mile, where Isabel Prosnitz made her eight laps in 6:07.60 to earn tenth place.

Host Denison University (95) was able to narrowly beat out Case Western Reserve University (94) for the first place finish. Mount Vernon Nazarene University took third with 75 points, while Waynesburg University (61) and Muskingum University (55) rounded out the top five.

Senior Anna Brown competed in an opposite field event today at the Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational hosted by Ashland University, looking to qualify for the national meet. Brown made her mile in 4:59.85, which placed her third in the race and 31st in the NCAA DIII rankings. The run was also good enough to break Kenyon's indoor program record of 5:04.73, which was set by Natalie Plick in 2013.

The Owls will be back on the track on Saturday, February 14 for the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein University in Westerville.
