Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kenyon topples Transylvania to start 2026 season

GAMBIER, Ohio– After rescheduling from Friday due to weather, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team suited up for the first time in 2026 from a snow-walled Field at Benson Bowl, taking on Transylvania University on Sunday afternoon.

The Owls took control from the opening faceoff and never took their foot off the gas, outscoring the Pioneers 12-2 after the game was tied at two to earn the 14-4 win after 60 minutes.

2025 leading scorer David Chintala wasted no time in finding the back of the net to start 2026. After Will Jordan controlled the opening faceoff, Kenyon marched right down the field and Chintala scored the first goal of the contest just 13 seconds into the game.

After Transylvania tied it up at one three minutes later, midfielder Tanner Lewis regained the lead for the Owls off of a find from Lucas Flynn at 10:34 in the first. Four minutes went by before the Pioneers' second goal at 6:35 to tie the game at two, but two goals in the final minute of the first quarter jump started what would turn out to be a 12-2 run for Kenyon throughout the rest of the game. Gavin Gumucio got in the mix for his first goal of the season, and Chintala added the second for the Owls to end the first up 4-2.

Mike Kapral netted the lone goal of the second quarter as both defenses began settling in. Lewis found the elusive Kapral near the crease and the senior made no mistake. Adam Hall had a strong stretch in the second, saving five shots to keep the visitors off the scoreboard. After 30 minutes, the home team led 5-2.

Chintala really turned on the jets in the third quarter, finding the net four times. His first of the third was assisted by Gumicio, who scored the team's other goal in the quarter. The Owls outshot Transy 19-2 in the stretch, winning six faceoffs and drawing four penalties to take a 10-3 lead into the fourth.

Kenyon scored four straight goals to start the fourth, which capped off a 7-0 run from the 3:26 mark in the third quarter. Gumucio got things started in the final period with his fourth goal of the day, followed by two tallies from Alex Haag and the second goal from Lewis. The Pioneers scored with 50 seconds remaining, but it was nowhere near enough to catch the Owls, who took the opener 14-4.

As a team, Kenyon outshot Transylvania 51-30 and had a 29-20 edge in shots on goal. The Owls also won the ground game, corralling 36 ground balls to the Pioneers' 28, and the turnover battle, forcing 10 on the day.

Chintala led the way with six goals, while Tanner Lewis' pair of goals and three assists gave him five points. Gumucio's hat trick and an assist gave him four points and Haag's two goals in the fourth set him with two points. On the defensive side of the ball, Ben Devitis and Nathan Johnston each caused two turnovers.

Jordan led the team in ground balls with seven and amassed a 13-of-16 (81.2 percent) mark from the faceoff dot. Hall ended the day with 16 saves and a .800 save percentage.

Up next, the Owls will head to Adrian College on Saturday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m. for the team's first road test of 2026.
