Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kenyon falls to No. 7 York to start road trip

YORK, Pa. – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team kicked off its spring break road trip on Sunday afternoon against No. 7 York College, beginning a slate of three straight games against top 20-ranked teams.

Although the Owls were able to keep pace through the first half, the Spartans' consistent attack became too much to handle down the stretch, eventually falling 6-14.

Kenyon's defense stood tall in the opening quarter, battling through several tough possessions for York. As a team, the Owls were outshot 11-6 in the opening frame and 5-2 on goal, but three saves from Adam Hall kept the visitors in the game early. The Spartans scored twice in the first frame to take a 2-0 lead to the second.

Tanner Lewis got the team's first goal at 12:58 in the second, his eighth of the season assisted by Harrison Curtiss. York scored twice more before Gavin Gumucio netted Kenyon's second goal at 8:14 in the second to set the score at 2-4. The Spartans added two more down the stretch including a man up goal at 17 seconds to take a 6-2 lead to the break.

Out of halftime, the Owls got back on the scoreboard with a tally from Lucas Flynn, who found the back of the net at 12:40 to shrink the lead to three. York responded with a goal of its own, but Lewis got his second goal of the game a little over a minute later for a man up score at 7:19. The Spartans retorted with three straight goals to close the third quarter up 10-4.

York scored four more goals in the fourth, making it three straight quarters doing so for the home team. The Owls added two in the final frame, as Gumucio tacked on his second of the game and Luke Riney scored at 6:55 with an assist from David Chintala. With the apple on Riney's goal, Chintala is tied with Devin Catlin (2006-09) for second place all time in program points, moving him to 213 for his career.

Lewis and Gumucio's two goals apiece tied for the team lead in points. Jack Laganza caused a team high four turnovers, while Will Jordan brought in six ground balls and went 12-23 on the faceoff dot. Hall ended the game with 18 saves on a season-high 50 shots faced. His save total moved him into second place among Kenyon's all-time leaders, now with 653 career saves.

Kenyon will be back in action on Wednesday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m. against No. 12 Dickinson College.
