Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Owls’ late surge not enough to down No. 12 Devils

CARLISLE, Pa. – Playing in the second of three ranked matchups on the team's Pennsylvania spring break road trip, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team took on No. 12 Dickinson College on Wednesday afternoon.

Although the Owls outscored the Devils 3-1 in the fourth quarter, the team could not overcome the substantial first half deficit, eventually falling 7-12.

After tying Devin Catlin (2006-09) last game, David Chintala's game-opening goal at 13:43 officially moved the senior into second place all time in program points. His tally to open the scoring would unfortunately be Kenyon's only score of the half, as Dickinson tacked on eight goals in the opening 30 minutes.

The Owls did have five shots on goal in the first half, but Devils keeper Rocco Bognet stopped the visitors from scoring further.

Chintala found the net again to open the second half to set the score 8-2 early in the third. After Dickinson scored to restore a seven goal lead, Adam Hall got in the action with a full field goal, taking advantage of an empty cage on a ten-man ride for the third goal of his career. Chintala completed the hat trick at 2:08 in the third by way of an assist from Gavin Gumucio, but two more Devils goals kept the advantage for the home team at 11-4 with 15 minutes to play.

Dickinson scored at 10:47 in the fourth to make it 11-5, but Kenyon was able to close the game with three straight goals to end on a high note. Gavin Collins scored his first goal of the season with an assist from Chintala, while Chintala dished another apple to Mike Kapral just over a minute later. Kapral netted the final tally of the game at 1:56 with an assist from Alex Haag, but it just wasn't enough to catch the Devils.

Chintala ended the game with five points, while Kapral was second on the team with two. Will Jordan went 14-of-23 (60.8 percent) from the faceoff dot while leading the team in ground balls, while Harry Clark and Colin Williams each caused two turnovers. Hall made 10 saves in between the pipes.

The Owls will close their road trip on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m. against No 17. Swarthmore College.
