New infield in place for Owls’ home opener

GAMBIER, Ohio -- In time for the Kenyon College Owls home-opening games, The Motz Group completed a fresh new playing surface at the Kenyon Softball Complex, converting the existing dirt infield to a state-of-the-art TriplePlay synthetic turf system.

Despite previous attempts to modify the dirt infield, the Softball Complex had multiple issues with drainage, often causing postponements and cancellations. The new turf, as well as the new drainage system underneath it, will allow for more reliable in-game play, as well as far fewer scheduling obstacles. Additionally, new bullpens were installed as part of the project.

"This facility upgrade is a game-changer for our program," Head Coach Emily Miller said. "It will allow us to be more consistent in our training and reduce weather disruptions. We are very excited to begin competition on the new surface."

"This new field is a terrific example of our support of Kenyon?s softball program and we are thrilled to see the ways in which the student-athlete experience will improve because of its creation," Vice President of Student Affairs Celestino Limas said. "The players on the team give their all to the program and we are grateful to them for being stellar role models on campus and we are proud to show our commitment to them with this new diamond."

TriplePlay is The Motz Group's softball-focused synthetic turf system. It offers a primary backing that provides all-encompassing stability, and is built to ensure there will be no wrinkles or turf creep.

The Motz Group is very familiar with the Kenyon campus, having already installed synthetic turf at McBride Field and The Field at Benson Bowl.

"We're proud to once again partner with Kenyon to deliver a new softball field that reflects the strength and tradition of its athletic program. This marks our third project together, and that continued collaboration speaks to the trust we've built over time—from maintaining their existing surfaces to helping bring new facilities to life. It's an honor to support Kenyon's student-athletes and contribute to spaces that will serve the campus community for years to come," said Tyce Rupert, Motz's Senior Field Consultant.

The Kenyon team, which currently owns a 7-7 record, will host its home-opening games on the new turf Sunday, March 22 against the Otterbein University Cardinals. First pitch is slated for 1 pm.
