Owls drop ranked matchup to No. 13 Johns Hopkins

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The No. 16 Kenyon College women's tennis team wrapped up the second match of its three-match slate Saturday afternoon at Christopher Newport University Tennis Courts, falling 6-1 to No. 13 Johns Hopkins University in a neutral-site matchup. With the result, the Owls move to 9-3 overall, while the Blue Jays improve to 5-3 on the season.

KC opened the afternoon by claiming a victory at the top doubles flight. Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime teamed up for a 6-4 win over Sydney Langer and Lia Melvin. Johns Hopkins responded by securing the doubles point with wins on the remaining courts. At No. 2 doubles, Ava Li and Kamila Wong defeated Shadia Amado Aguad and Kiara Komlodi 6-1, while Claire Loftus and Sahana Madala topped Clare Hudson and Bridgette Kelly 6-1 at the third flight to give the Blue Jays the early advantage .

Singles play featured two matchups that went to three sets, including a thrilling battle at the top of the lineup. At No. 1 singles, Lazaridou captured the opening set 6-1 against Melvin before Melvin answered with a 6-3 second-set victory. The match was decided in a 10-point tiebreak, where Lazaridou prevailed 11-9 to earn Kenyon's lone point of the afternoon. The Bluejays secured the remaining matches in straight sets, beginning at No. 2 singles where Wong defeated Komlodi 6-1, 6-4. Loftus followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nouaime at No. 3, and Madala posted a 6-2, 604 victory against Amado Aguad at No. 4. At court five, Hudson battled Isabel He in a three-set contest, taking the opening set 7-6 (7-5) before He rallied to win 6-1 in the second set and secured the match in the deciding tiebreak 10–7. Karah Li rounded out the scoring with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kelly at No. 6 singles 

The Owls will look to wrap up their stay in Virginia on Sunday, March 22, as they face No. 17 Williams College. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m
