NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The No. 16 Kenyon College women's tennis team wrapped up its three-match slate Sunday morning at the James T. & Sarah C. Eyre Courts, edging No. 20 Williams College, 4-3, in a neutral-site showdown hosted by Christopher Newport University.
With the win, the Owls improved to 10-3 (2-0 NCAC), while the Ephs slipped to 5-2 (2-1 NESCAC).
Kenyon learned their lesson from yesterday's doubles, sweeping all three flights to secure the opening point. At the top spot, Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime delivered a statement performance, blanking Mia Roets and Jane Ladaga 6-0. The No. 2 duo of Shadia Amado Aguad and Kiara Komlodi followed with a 6-4 win over Mia Thomann and Ayanna Varma, while Bridgette Kelly and Clare Hudson capped the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 victory against Katelyn Wu and Margaux Molyneux, giving the Owls a much needed boost early on.
Singles action proved to be a battle across the lineup. Lazaridou continued her strong day at court one, cruising past Zoe Yao 6-1, 6-0 to give Kenyon an additional point. At flight No.2, Komlodi delivered one of the match's most dramatic performances, outlasting Thomann in a marathon three-set contest 6-7, 7-6, 6-3. Hudson added another key victory for the Owls at No. 5 singles, defeating Roets 6-0, 6-2.
Williams picked up points at the remaining courts, including a narrow three-set battle at court three where Julia Zhang edged Nouaime 3-6, 7-6, 6-4, and another three-set contest at No. 4 singles where Varma defeated Amado Aguad 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Ephs also claimed the No. 6 flight as Ladaga topped Kelly 6-3, 6-1, but Kenyon's strong showing earlier in the lineup proved enough to secure the 4-3 victory .
The Owls now turn their attention west as they prepare for another marquee matchup. Kenyon will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana, for a neutral-site contest against No. 3 University of Chicago, with first serve set for 10:00 a.m.
