Prior, Sobel log wins at Lid-Lifter meet

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's track and field team participated in Saturday's Lid-Lifter meet, hosted by Denison University. Although team scores were not tabulated, the Owls had nine top-10 individual finishes, including two event wins.

The two wins came from sophomores Lucie Prior and Ari Sobel. Prior won the steeplechase in a personal-best time of 12:08.54, clipping her previous best of 12:16.30. Sobel, who normally runs sprints for the Owls, won the 800-meter race in 2:22.11.

In the 400-meter run, Kenyon had a trio of top-10 finishes. Leading that group was Noa Helmbrecht, also a sophomore. She clocked in at 1:02.04 to claim fourth place. First-years Lia Wahl and Georgia Yatrakis tacked on ninth- and tenth-place finishes, respectively. Wahl crossed the finish line at
1:04.45 and Yatrakis crossed in 1:04.58.

In field events, the Owls top performer was sophomore Penelope Artemis, who placed fifth in hammer throw and fourth in the shot put. In the hammer, she registered a distance of 136-1 (41.48m) and in the shot put she recorded a 35-3 ¾ (10.76m).

Like Artemis, junior Sadie Olson also had a couple of top-10 showings. She was third in the triple jump, covering 31-3¾ (9.54m). That was a personal record, overwriting her previous best of 30-5 (9.27m). In the long jump, her best attempt covered 13-8¼ (4.17m), which was good for tenth place.

Next up for the Owls will be the two-day College of Wooster Invitational, which starts Friday and concludes Saturday.
