Kenyon topples Wabash as NCAC slate rolls on

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team looked in top form on Saturday afternoon against Wabash University in the team's fourth North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contest of the season.

For the sixth game in a row, the Owls offense scored double digit goals on offense, and in addition to a great defensive outing the team was able to remain undefeated in the conference with a 15-5 win.

David Chintala led the Kenyon offense with five goals and three assists, his highest point output this season in just three quarters of work. The first two Owls tallies of the game belonged to Alex Haag, who ended the game with four goals in what has been a strong stretch for the midfielder. Chintala and Mike Kapral found twine in the first and after 15 minutes, Kenyon held a 4-1 lead.

The Owls rattled off seven straight goals to open the second quarter to break the game wide open. Chintala scored three times and Haag twice, supplemented by goals from Gavin Gumucio and Henry Wooster. Wabash scored with five seconds left in the half for an 11-2 deficit.

After the break, Tanner Lewis scored twice and Chintala netted his fifth and final goal of the day. The Little Giants scored two times in the third quarter, but the Owls still held a 14-4 lead headed to the fourth. Finley Radding put the finishing touches on the win for Kenyon in the final frame with the first goal of his career.

Overall, the Owls outshot the Little Giants 63-30, with 33 of those shots finding the cage. Kenyon also held a 43-21 advantage on the ground and won 20-of-24 faceoffs for the game, nine by Will Jordan, six by Jack Levitt and four by Jack Berman.

On the defensive end, Charlie Fields led the team with two caused turnovers, while Luke Riney brought in four ground balls. In net, Adam Hall had nine saves and Will Setteducate stopped two.

Kenyon's record improves to 8-5 on the season and 4-0 in the NCAC. Up next, the Owls will head to Granville, Ohio to take on Denison University on Tuesday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m.
