Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Kenyon dealt first conference loss by Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team made the short trip to Granville on Tuesday night for a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) showdown with rival Denison University.

The Owls could not get the offense going out of the gate, allowing the Big Red to gain a lead through the first three quarters. After a lengthy rain delay gave both teams a pause between the third and fourth quarter, the visitors still couldn't gain any momentum, eventually falling 5-10.

After Denison got on the board less than two minutes into the game, Henry Powell notched the first Kenyon goal at 12:24 in the first, a man-up score with an assist from Tanner Lewis. Unfortunately, that would be the Owls' last goal of until 34 seconds remaining in the half, as the Big Red scored six times before David Chintala found the back of the net to take a 2-7 deficit to halftime.

For much of the third quarter, there were no goals. Adam Hall made six saves in the quarter to keep the score 2-7, but the offense was unable to find the back of the net, registering two shots on goal.  Lewis broke the drought with an assist from Alex Haag at 2:38 in the third, but Denison scored twice in the final 75 seconds of the quarter to build a 9-3 advantage.

In between the third and fourth quarters, a heavy thunderstorm struck the area, sending both teams inside for the better part of 90 minutes. The game resumed just before 11:00 p.m., and the Big Red came out with the first goal at 12:24 in the fourth. Powell and Harrison Curtiss scored at 11:02 and 7:49 respectively, but that would be the last offense for the game, as Denison eventually took the game 10-5.

Lewis led the team with three points on a goal and two assists, while Powell's two tallies put him as the only other Owl with multiple points. Hall ended the game with 13 saves, while Will Jordan went 15-for-17 from the faceoff dot and grabbed a team high 10 ground balls.

Kenyon's record falls to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the NCAC. Up next, the Owls will head to Greencastle, Indiana for a matchup against DePauw University on Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m.
