Kenyon women earn eighth at All-Ohio Championships

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's track and field team competed in the All-Ohio Championships this weekend, amongst a field that included the top NCAA Division III teams from around the state. 

For the two day event, the Owls totalled 34 points, which was good enough to slot the team into eighth out of the 14 team field. 

Kenyon's best finish of the day came in the 400, where Ari Sobel took home a runner up finish, rounding the track in 58.70. Her time was not only a career best, but tied the program record set by Alexia Derkasch back in 2013. 

Over in the 5000, Olivia Ide gave the Owls another top five mark with an 18:19.46 time. In the 400 hurdles, Addie Tober added a fifth place finish at 1:08.87. Noa Helmbrecht contributed two top five performances for the event, first in the 100 where she took fourth, finishing in 12.84 seconds. The second game in the 4x100 relay, where she teamed up with Georgia Yatrakis, Lia Wahl, and Sobel for a fifth place finish at 50.18 seconds. 

Other top ten performances on the track included another strong finish from Helmbrecht, taking sixth in the 200 meter with a 26.09 time. Wahl finished just behind her at 26.14, slotting her into seventh. Another seventh place finish came from Lucie Prior, who completed the 3000 steeplechase in 12:18.17. The team of Addi Tober, Jean Cook, Helmbrecht and Sobel collected a ninth place finish in the 4x400 relay, crossing the line in 4:13.91. 

In the field events, Sadie Olson turned in two top 15 finishes for Kenyon. In the triple jump, she leapt to a 9.24-meter (30-3 ¾) mark to take 11th place, and backed it up with a 4.25-meter (13-11 ½) hop in the long jump, good enough for 12th. Wahl made another top 20 for the Owls, taking 17th place in the high jump when she cleared a 1.38-meter (4-6 ¼) bar. 

For the event, host Ohio Wesleyan took home first place with a 173.7 score. Baldwin Wallace finished second with 103 points, and Case Western rounded out the podium with 95.5 points. 

Outside of the All-Ohio, Anna Brown competed alongside a field of NCAA Division I and II runners at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University. Competing in the 800, Brown turned in a 2:13.30 time, which was good enough for 22nd amongst a field of 148 runners. 

The Owls will be back on the track for the team's first and only home meet of the season, hosting the Duane Gomez Invitational on Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. from Wilder Track.
