Kenyon lands in seventh at NCAC Championship

GAMBIER, Ohio - After two days of competition at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championship, the Kenyon College women's track and field team wound up in seventh place amongst the conference field. 

The Owls scored 44 points over 21 total events, highlighted by four finishes inside the top three. 

Kenyon's best finish of day two and the championship came in the 1,500 meter, where senior Anna Brown took second place and narrowly missed eclipsing her career best. She crossed the line in 4:37.51, which earned eight points and was just slower than her career best of 4:37.22. Brown also added a third place finish in her signature event, the 800. She made her two laps in 2:16.25 and earned another six points for the Owls. 

In the field events, Penelope Artemis logged two third place finishes to add 12 more points to her team's total score. She first heaved a 11.60 meter (38-0 ¾) toss in the shot put to take bronze in a field of 17. The sophomore backed up her finish with another third in the hammer throw, twirling a 44.73 meter (146-9) mark in a field of 19. 

Back on the track, Brown teamed up with Addilyn Tober, Ari Sobel and Noa Helmbrecht in the 4x400, where that team earned four points with a fifth place finish. Sobel and Helmbrecht were not done there, as Sobel rounded the track in 59.22 for a sixth place mark in the 400. Helmbrecht took sixth in both of her signature events, crossing the line in 26.32 seconds in the 200 and 12.65 seconds in the 100. 

That duo joined forces with Georgia Yatrakis and Lia Wahl in the 4x100, where the squad turned in a 49.62 second finish for sixth place and three more points. Tober claimed two more points in the 400 hurdles, making her lap in 1:08.85. 

In the end, John Carroll University claimed the conference crown, totallng 190 points. DePauw University (156.5) and Ohio Wesleyan University (149.5) took podium spots, while Denison University (105), Wittenberg University (102) and Oberlin College (49) finished ahead of Kenyon.
