Three Owls called to play in NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Committee released Wednesday evening the names of the individuals who will compete in the singles and doubles competition of the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships. Among the selections were Kenyon College junior Alejandro Gonzalez, sophomore Juozas Cioladis, and first-year Maximo Llamas Castellanos

The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships was based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Gonzalez, who played mainly at the No. 2 spot in the Owls' lineup, was invited to participate in the singles championships, while Llamas Castellanos, who played at the No. 1 spot, was invited to play in both the singles and doubles championships. His partner in the doubles championship will be Cioladis. The appearances in the NCAA individual championships will be a first for all three Kenyon student-athletes.

Gonzalez currently has a 16-6 singles record this season and a No. 45 rank in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) latest national poll of NCAA Division III singles players. Within the Central Region rank, Gonzalez sits at No. 16.

Llamas Castellanos is ranked at No. 13 in the Central Region and at No. 33 in the nation. His singles record in his first season of collegiate play is 24-4.

In doubles competition, Llamas Castellanos and Cioladis played 25 matches together and produced a 21-4 record. At one point this season, they won 15 consecutive matches. In the ITA ranking system, they hold down the No. 20 spot in the nation and the No. 5 spot in the Central Region.

All three Kenyon representatives, as well as the rest of the team, are currently in Chicago and will begin the NCAA team championship in second-round play on Friday.

At the conclusion of the team championship, which will be May 22, the individual championships will be held May 23-26, at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
