Kenyon distance runners give it one final go

BEREA, Ohio -- Kenyon College distance runners made the trip to Baldwin Wallace University on Friday to compete in the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet while trying to improve season-best marks. The rainy and cold weather, however, did nothing to help trim times.

Sophomore Charlie Blackmer, trying to qualify for the NCAA Championship in the 1,500-meter race, went into the meet with the third-ranked time (3:51.73) in the Great Lakes Region. At Baldwin Wallace, though, he finished 22nd out of 76 runners, completing the race in 3:59.68.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, seniors Colt Murphy, Owen Rodstrom, and Noah Hopkins struggled with Mother Nature while trying to cut back their season-best times. Murphy ended up taking sixth place in 9:40.04, while Rodstrom placed 10th and Hopkins finished 17th. Rodstrom clocked in at 9:51.25 and Hopkins turned in a 10:16.71. Rodstrom went into the race with the second-best time (9:18.48) in the Great Lakes Region this season.

Finally, in the 5,000-meter run, Kenyon sent out a quartet of runners. That group was led by first-year Noah Berg, who clocked in at 15:26.59 and placed 51st in a field of 119 runners. Another first-year, John Coffin, took 74th place with a time of 15:42.64. Sophomore Luke Galik placed 83rd in 15:52.13 and Adam Skidmore, another first-year, placed 113th with a time of 16:58.28.
