Owls place seventh, Belova is runner-up

PARIS, Ky. -- Kenyon College sophomore Sasha Belova placed second among 65 golfers and led the Owls to a seventh-place team finish during Transylvania University's two-day Fall Classic, held Sunday and Monday at Houston Oaks Golf Course.

Belova fired a pair of even-par 72s. Her final total of 144 strokes was just four off the winning total of 140, carded by Lauren Paige Slatton of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Both of Belova's rounds included four birdies, four bogeys and ten pars.

Kenyon's next two top scores also came from sophomores. Camryn Nelson posted a 163 on rounds of 81 and 82, while Jane Fanning penciled in a 166 on identical rounds of 83. Nelson ended up in a tie for 27th place on the individual leaderboard, while Fanning tied for 35th place.

First-year Demi Hampilos rounded out the Kenyon scores, as she scored an 89 Sunday and then an 87 Monday. Her total of 176 put her in 50th place.

The Owls put up consistent team scores of 325 and 324, totaling a 649 during the two rounds. Christopher Newport University won the Classic with a two-day count of 619. Rose-Hulman was second with 320 and Denison University was third with a 322.

The Owls will continue the fall portion of their schedule next week at Allegheny College's Kuhn Memorial Invitational.
