Owls start strong at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's golf team traveled to Denison Golf Club this weekend to participate in the two-day, two-round Lynn Schweizer Invitational, hosted by Denison University. The Owls fared well, finishing in fourth place out of 13 teams.

One season ago, at the same tournament, the Kenyon women placed sixth. That team posted a score of 695. The 2026 team fired a 644 to record a 51-shot improvement from its inaugural year.

Sasha Belova lead the way for the Owls. Playing out of the one spot, Belova carded two birdies through two days. She finished in solo 15th place out of a 75-player field by scoring a 158. She tallied an 81 in Saturday's round and then came back with a 77 in Sunday's round, finishing 13 stokes over par for the tournament.

Claire Liu made her collegiate debut in style, finishing in a tie for 21st position for the Owls. Liu fired 80 on both days to end at 16-over for the tournament. She had a strong stretch on day one, making seven pars in a row. Liu edged teammate Camryn Nelson, who was the third-best finisher for Kenyon. Nelson started out strong, firing a first round 79 in hot and humid conditions. She scored two birdies on day two and was then able to post an 84 to tie for a 28th place individual finish.

Sophomore Jane Fanning and first-year Demi Hampilos rounded out the Kenyon scoring. Fanning, beginning her first year of captaincy, captured an individual tie for 33rd place. Fanning battled through slow greens on day one, carding an 87. However, on day two she posted a 79, making 11 pars on a consistent scorecard. Hampilos, like Liu, was making her collegiate debut. She held up well, carding a 166 to finish in an individual tie for 35th place. Hampilos also carded a team-high three birdies for the tournament and scored rounds of 82 and 84.

The Owls will look to continue the positive momentum in their next tournament, which will be the Transylvania Women's Fall Classic, beginning Sunday, September 13. That tournament will play out at Houston Oaks in Paris, Kentucky.
