Denison dominates Kenyon in 4-0 romp

2011 Field Hockey
GAMBIER, Ohio (October 25, 2011) Denison University flexed its muscles Tuesday afternoon at McBride Field in dealing the Kenyon College field hockey team a 4-0 defeat. The Big Red opened up a three-goal lead by halftime and kept the Ladies from threatening much to record the shutout victory.

Denison (15-1, 12-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) bunched its first-half goals together with all three coming in a five-minute span. Between the 15th and 20th minutes, the Big Red rapidly gained control in turning a 0-0 stalemate into a comfortable advantage.

With the lead in hand, the Denison defense went to work and kept Kenyon out of the scoring end. The Ladies (6-11, 6-7 NCAC) only attempted two shots in addition to being limited to one penalty corner in the contest.

Cattie Merrick scored twice and Katie McMahon tallied a goal and an assist for the Big Red, who swept the season series with the Ladies thanks to the win.

Even with the loss, Kenyon can keep itself in the conversation for next week's North Coast Athletic Conference tournament with a victory in the regular-season finale Saturday morning at Ohio Wesleyan University.
