GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison University exacted a measure of revenge Wednesday afternoon against the Kenyon College field hockey team. After the Ladies dealt the Big Red a 3-1 loss in the teams' first clash of the season, Denison returned the favor in the rematch by posting a 2-1 decision in Granville.

The Big Red (12-4, 8-3 North Coast Athletic Conference) notched the game-winner in the 40th minute when Cathie Merrick hooked up with Karla Dixon on a penalty-corner goal. Although 30 minutes remained in the contest after the score, Denison's defense made the one-goal lead stand up for the victory.

Kenyon (8-7, 7-4 NCAC) put its lone tally on the scoreboard shortly before halftime thanks to senior Leah Jacques' second goal of the season. Sophomore Rachel Hall found Jacques following a penalty corner to knot the score at the 27:00 mark.

It was the only time in the contest the Ladies solved Denison goalie Brittany Benson, who recorded nine save to earn the victory. Kenyon's Sydney Carney-Knisely nearly kept pace with Benson, though, by making seven saves of her own.

The end result vaulted the Big Red past the Ladies in the NCAC standings. With three games remaining in the regular season, Denison is now one game ahead of Kenyon in second place. The third-place Ladies can keep themselves in position for a berth in the upcoming conference tournament with a victory over Oberlin College on Saturday. The Yeowomen visit McBride Field at 1 p.m.
