SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's soccer team entered Saturday in control of only one part of the equation that would lead to a berth in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament. But by whipping Wittenberg University, 4-0, the rest fell into place for the Lords, who will get to experience postseason play next week.
Heading into the final game of the regular season, Kenyon knew it had to win against the Tigers (5-12-2, 0-8-1 NCAC) to keep its playoff hopes alive. The Lords also needed either Hiram College or Allegheny College to lose Saturday, and DePauw University helped Kenyon's cause by dealing the Gators a 4-1 defeat.
Once all the results were in, the Lords (9-6-2, 5-2-2 NCAC) finished fourth in the conference standings and earned a first-round match-up at top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan University (13-2-3, 7-1-1 NCAC) on Wednesday. The No. 23-ranked Battling Bishops took the regular-season meeting between the schools by a 2-0 margin just three days ago.
