GAMBIER, Ohio (April 14, 2012) Facing a hefty seven-goal deficit in the first half of Saturday's conference contest, the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team made a second-half charge against the College of Wooster. The rally undoubtedly lifted the Ladies back into the game, but it also came up a bit short in a 14-10 defeat.
Wooster (9-3-1, 2-1 NCAC) didn't waste any time in taking control of the game. The Fighting Scots fired in the first seven scores. It wasn't until the 16:50 mark of the first half that the Ladies broke through. That Kenyon goal came on a free-position shot from junior
Emily Nichols.
The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the first half and Wooster waltzed into the intermission with a 9-3 lead.
When the second half opened, the Ladies did not roll over and play dead. Instead, senior
Monty Sherwood and Nichols each scored twice and pulled the Ladies within two goals (9-7) with nearly 25 minutes still to play.
Kenyon (4-7, 0-3 NCAC) continued to hang around for the next 20 minutes, but never managed to get closer than that two-goal margin. Wooster then sealed the deal by scoring three times in the final five minutes.
Nichols' four goals were a game-high and improved her season total to a team-best 24. Sherwood added an assist to her two goals for a three-point game. Junior
Marissa Henderson also netted two goals for Kenyon and
Leah Sack scored one and assisted on another.
Up next for the Ladies is a Tuesday trip to Delaware, Ohio for a 7:00 pm conference game against Ohio Wesleyan University.
