DELAWARE, Ohio (April 17, 2012) After allowing three early goals Tuesday evening, the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team regrouped and took control of its game with the host Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops. The Ladies went on to score nine straight times en route to a 10-6 conference victory at Selby Stadium.
The win was the first North Coast Athletic Conference victory of the season for the Ladies, who are now 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the NCAC. It also snapped a five-game losing streak for the Ladies and extended the Bishops' skid to four games. Ohio Wesleyan is now 6-5 overall and 0-3 in conference competition.
The Bishops netted the first three goals within the game's first seven minutes. At the 21:38 mark of the first half, Kenyon junior
Leah Sack then sparked an offensive outburst that turned the game around. She first assisted sophomore
Susie Gurzenda on the Ladies' initial tally, and then assisted classmate
Emily Nichols just 37 seconds later. If that was not enough to get her club going in the right direction, Sack added a goal of her own less than a minute later.
Before the first half ended, Sack chalked up one more assist and got the Ladies into the halftime break with a 6-3 lead and tons of momentum. Sack got one more goal in the second half and ended the game with two goals, three assists, and five points.
Kenyon forged ahead to build second-half leads of 9-3 and 10-4 before Ohio Wesleyan scored the final two goals of the game.
Nichols wound up matching Sack's two-goal output, while the other six Kenyon goals were scored by six different players. On the other side of the field, freshman goalkeeper
Meredith Bentsen made 10 saves between the Kenyon pipes.
