Box Score
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of Rochester was simply too much for the Kenyon College field hockey team in its 2012 debut Saturday afternoon at neutral-site Syracuse University. The Yellow Jackets' unrelenting swarm produced 35 shots, and the offensive pressure led them to a 5-0 decision over the Ladies.
Despite being outshot 15-2 in the first half, Kenyon hung with Rochester throughout the opening period. Michelle Relin opened the scoring for the Yellow Jackets at the 14:12 mark and the game remained 1-0 until 37 seconds before halftime when Rochester tallied its second goal.
The 47th minute is when the Yellow Jackets (1-0) really began to open things up. Megan Keil, who punched in the score before halftime, found the back of the net again at 47:31. Less than two minutes later, Relin also scored for the second time to put the Ladies (0-1) at a hefty disadvantage.
Sophomore goalie
Alex Britt did her part to swat Rochester's attack, but her impressive total of 15 saves just wasn't enough to negate the Yellow Jackets' 35-5 shot advantage for the contest.
Kenyon continues its trek through upstate New York Sunday with a noon clash at Nazareth College.
