WOOSTER, Ohio – The Kenyon College field hockey team's winning streak of six games, it's longest since the 2006 season, was snapped Thursday afternoon with a 4-0 loss at The College of Wooster. The loss for the Ladies was also their first in North Coast Athletic Conference action this season.
Wooster (4-5, 3-3 NCAC) didn't let the rainy conditions slow down its start. The Scots fired off the first 11 shots of the game and also recorded six penalty corners before Kenyon could mount any kind of counterattack. Two of those first 11 shots resulted in goals for Anna Divis and Isabelle Howe.
The quick strike from the Scots caused Kenyon coach
Jacque DeMarco to call a timeout with 19:43 left in the first half. After the break, Kenyon got the ball into the Wooster zone and set up camp there. Unfortunately for the Ladies, six penalty corners and four shots proved fruitless.
Wooster went on to double-up Kenyon in the second half with two goals from Clare Nelson-Johnson. Nikki Sever, who assisted on Howe's goal in the first half, also assisted on one of Nelson-Johnson's goals.
Kenyon (6-3, 5-1 NCAC) was outshout by the Scots, 23-8. Kenyon keeper
Sydney Carney-Knisely made six saves, while her Wooster counterpart, Carrie Mount, made five.
The Ladies will return home Saturday and attempt to recapture first place in the conference standings. In order to do so, they'll have to take down the DePauw University Tigers, a team that sports an 8-1 overall record and a 6-0 NCAC mark.
