Box Score
RICHMOND, Ind. – The Kenyon College field hockey team controlled Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference opener at Earlham College from beginning to end. The Ladies dominated at both ends of the field and blanked the Quakers, 5-0, for their first victory of the season.
Kenyon (1-2, 1-0 NCAC) kept the majority of the action on Earlham's half of the field. The Ladies racked up 26 shots, 22 of which were on-target. When the Quakers (0-2, 0-1 NCAC) did manage to cross midfield, Kenyon's defense went into lock-down mode and only allowed them to get one shot away. Junior goalkeeper
Sydney Carney-Knisely saved that attempt to earn the seventh shutout of her career.
Freshman
Christine Bloom paced the offensive explosion with two goals and an assist. Both of her scores came in rapid succession in the second half and were set up by sophomore
Rachel Hall. Sophomore
Cecilia Depman concluded the Ladies' three-goal outburst over a four-minute span with the team's final score at the 57:43 mark.
Kenyon not only finished strong but also started fast. Junior
Julie Freedman opened the scoring in the third minute off of Bloom's assist. Hall added a goal 2:50 before halftime to give the Ladies a 2-0 lead at the break.
Kenyon continues NCAC play Tuesday night with a trip to Wittenberg University for a 7:30 p.m. tilt against the Tigers.
