HIRAM, Ohio – Led by Tony Amolo and Alistair Flynn, the Kenyon Lords soccer team scored at will against Hiram College in a nightcap match that wrapped up a soccer doubleheader between the two schools. Flynn and Amolo each scored twice and tallied an assist while a total of seven Lords hit the scoresheet in the shutout victory.
Kenyon's offense was hitting on all cylinders and regularly found the back of the net over the course of the match. Flynn carded his first goal of the match in the 13th minute when he and Amolo connected for the first of two occasions. Just two minutes later the duo struck again, this time Amolo getting credit for the goal.
Up 2-0 before the 15-minute mark, Kenyon continued its lighting of the scoreboard when freshman Josh Lee scored an unassisted goal in the 38th minute. The goal was his fourth of the year and signaled the midway point of Kenyon's scoring run.
Shortly after Lee's goal, Hiram's Tanner Matthew drew his first yellow card of the match. Its importance became realized just three minutes later when he drew a second yellow, leading to his disqualification and Hiram being forced to play a man down for the duration of the match.
Amolo and Flynn opened up the second half with goals in the 53rd and 63rd minutes, respectively. David Resnekov assisted on Amolo's goal while Alex Christoff tallied the helper on Flynn's score.
Nicholas Patterson also got in on the scoring action, scoring his first collegiate goal in the 83rd minute. The sophomore teamed up with Lewis Williams-Gray, who assisted for his first point of the year.
Kenyon's defense kept opportunities limited for the Terriers. The Lords allowed just three shot attempts over the course of the match. The only save made by the Lords came by Charlie Yamamoto who finished out the last 7:09 of the match in relief of Sam Clougher. Chris Minite and Chris Lindemeyer split time in goal for the Terriers, but each allowed three goals.
Kenyon (12-3-2, 5-0-2 NCAC) remains at the top of the North Coast Athletic Conference standings and continues to jostle for the top spot with Ohio Wesleyan University, who they took to a draw less than a week ago. The Lords have two matches remaining in the regular season, the first against Wittenberg University on Oct. 30 at 3:30 p.m.
