OBERLIN, Ohio – Sophomore Maddie Breschi scored four goals Sunday, tied a program record, and steered the Kenyon College field hockey team through a 5-0 thumping of the host Oberlin College Yeowomen. The Ladies' win secured third-place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings and guaranteed a spot in the postseason tournament.

Kenyon's appearance in the NCAC's four-team tournament, which gets underway November 6, will be its first since 2010. With one game still remaining in the regular season, the Ladies (11-6 overall, 9-4 NCAC) will play either at Denison University or at DePauw University in the tournament's opening round. The Ladies' last regular-season game is slated for Saturday, November 2 at fourth-place College of Wooster, a team that sits two games behind Kenyon in the NCAC standings.

As they displayed in Sunday's game, the Ladies got to this point with a balance of good offensive and defensive play. The offense has been so good that it's on the verge of setting a record. With Sunday's five goals against Oberlin, the Ladies have 60 on the season, seven short of the program record set by the 1996 team.

While the team is on the doorstep of setting records, Breschi has already broken through. Her four goals and one assist against the Yeowomen gave her nine points on the day and 40 points on the season, tying the Kenyon single-season record set by Sarah McNee in 2010. Additionally, Breschi has 16 goals this season and needs just one more to tie the Kenyon single-season record of 17 set by Danni Davis in 1996.

Aside from Breschi's outstanding performance, senior Susie Gurzenda recorded the other Kenyon goal off an assist from Breschi. Rachel Hall, a junior, assisted on Breschi's first goal of the game. Hall now has 15 goals, four assists, and 34 points on the season.

On the defensive end, senior goalkeeper Sydney Carney-Knisely played 60 minutes of scoreless field hockey, made one save, and lowered her season goals against average to 1.48. Claire O'Donnell-McCarthy finished off the final ten minutes of play in front of the cage. She made one save to go along with a defensive save from sophomore Morgen Barroso.
