GAMBIER, Ohio – It's the postseason and anything can happen. The Kenyon College field hockey team proved that Wednesday with a 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference tournament semifinal upset of Denison University, a team that was previously 17-1, riding a 13-game win streak, and twice defeated the Ladies in the regular season.

The Ladies won that semifinal contest with a goal from senior Susie Gurzenda. It was not only the second goal of the season for Gurzenda, but just the second goal of her career.

Saturday, the Ladies will take that 'anything can happen' attitude to Greencastle, Indiana to face the DePauw University Tigers in the NCAC championship match, which will began at 2 p.m. in Blackstock Stadium. The winner of the game earns the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.

DePauw is a tournament-tested team, one that advanced all the way to the NCAA's Final Four one season ago. This season, the Tigers are 16-4 and finished conference play with a 13-1 mark. They are the NCAC tournament's top-seeded team and they made it the championship game by defeating The College of Wooster, 6-0, in the tournament's semifinal round.

Kenyon entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Ladies are 13-6 overall and completed the NCAC portion of their schedule with a 10-4 record. Two of those NCAC losses came to DePauw. On September 14, the Ladies dropped a 1-0 decision in Greencastle. On October 12, DePauw came to Gambier, got off to a fast start, and delivered a 4-2 defeat to Kenyon.

The Ladies, turning in their best season since 2006, have been getting the job done with an aggressive offense that's cranked out 64 goals, just three shy of the program's single-season record. Over the course of the season, the Ladies offense outshot opponents 347-206 and gained a distinct 214-132 advantage in penalty corners taken. Individually, sophomore Maddie Breschi and junior Rachel Hall lead the way. Breschi has 17 goals and 42 points, both single-season Kenyon records. Hall follows with 15 goals and 34 points.

DePauw counters with three players who have ten or more goals this season. Paige Henry tops the Tigers' chart with 20 goals and 43 points. Chelsea Cutler has 11 goals and 33 points, while Maggie Campbell has chalked up a dozen goals and 28 points. The Tigers have averaged nearly seven goals per game over their last five games.

The Kenyon defense, which yields an average of 1.47 goals per game, is backed by senior goalkeeper Sydney Carney-Knisely. She has 90 saves and four shutouts this season. The DePauw defense allows an average of just 0.90 goals per game and is anchored by keeper Maggie Steele, who has 42 saves and ten shutouts.

DePauw will provide live stats and live video of the championship game. For those that can attend, ticket prices are $5 for an adult and $3 for children (18 and under). Admission is free for any NCAC student who presents a school ID at the gate.
