GREENCASTLE, Ind.  – The Kenyon College field hockey team's hopes for their first unblemished North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament run since 2007 came to an unsuccessful end Saturday afternoon. The Ladies met up with top-seeded DePauw University in the NCAC title game and battled to the very end, but two goals in the first half helped lead the Tigers to a 2-1 win and their second straight conference championship.

DePauw scored in the opening two minutes when Grace Goodbarn recorded the first goal off a penalty corner, marking her sixth goal of the season. Her shot was the first taken by either team in the game and set the tone for the Tigers in the first half.

As time ticked away in the opening half, the Tigers struck again. This time, Micheline Figel connected with Maggie Campbell to put DePauw up by a pair with six minutes remaining in the first half. The goal marked Figel's sixth of the season.

After being outshot by DePauw in the first half, 5-2, Kenyon cranked up its offensive pressure in the second stanza and bettered the Tigers' shot output. Sophomore Maddie Breschi scored her 18th goal of the season, a Kenyon record, during a penalty corner that was set up by junior Rachel Hall. The goal was scored at 39:41 and was the first of multiple chances the Ladies had to comeback.

After Kenyon survived a trio of shot attempts that were blocked down in front of the net, DePauw gave the Ladies chances to score by committing three different penalties to cause short-handed opportunities. Campbell was carded twice, one green and one yellow, in a six-minute span of time. In the 62nd minute, DePauw's Taylor Helms was given a yellow card. However, Kenyon was unable to squeeze out a shot attempt while holding the advantage. DePauw's defense clamped down and rode out the clock to seal a 2-1 win.

Despite allowing two goals, Kenyon's defense was no slouch either. The Ladies held NCAC leading goal scorer Paige Henry to just one shot attempt and kept the conference's assist leader, Chelsea Cutler, off of the score sheet.

Of Kenyon's eight shots, three landed on goal. DePauw keeper Maggie Steele made two saves in the win. Her counterpart, Sydney Carney-Knisely also made a pair of saves. DePauw held a slight advantage in penalty corners, 8-5.

DePauw (17-4) has now won its second straight NCAC title and will receive an automatic bid to represent the conference at the NCAA Tournament. The Ladies close up shop on their season with a 13-7 overall record, their best since 2006.

In addition to setting a program single-season record with 18 goals, Breschi also racked up 44 points, another Kenyon single-season record. With her assist, Hall finished the season with 15 goals, 5 assists, and 35 points.

Following the match, the NCAC released the names of those selected to the All-Tournament Team. Kenyon had three selections including Breschi, Alex Bair, and Emmy Weiner
