WESTERVILLE, Ohio –
Leah Sack,
Emily Nichols, and Jane Symmes combined for 18 points in the Kenyon College Ladies' lacrosse win Wednesday night against the Otterbein University Cardinals. Playing under the lights at neutral-site Westerville Central High School, the Kenyon women cruised to an 18-7 win in the non-conference contest that had to be moved from Otterbein's campus due to poor field conditions.
Symmes, a freshman, scored three goals and dished out four assists for a game-high seven points. Nichols, a senior, fired in six goals and Sack, also a senior, produced two goals and three assists. Sack's output now makes her one of just three women in the program's history to crack to 200-point career milestone. She currently sits in second place all-time at Kenyon with 202 career points. She surpassed Kaley Bell (201 points) and is just eight points shy of tying Cary Loomis (210 points) for the top spot on the Ladies' list.
The convincing victory for Kenyon was its third straight and ran the Ladies' overall record to 4-1. The loss dropped Otterbein to 3-3.
The Cardinals, a second-year program, never really stood a chance against the Ladies. Kenyon poured in the first ten goals of the game and never looked back. Nichols scored three of those first ten goals, while Sack and Heather Amato each added two scored in the run.
Otterbein did not net its first goal until the 6:42 mark of the first half and went into halftime facing an 11-4 deficit. When the teams returned to play, Kenyon tossed in four straight goals, two by Nichols, and left Otterbein to deal with a running clock for the last 26 minutes of play.
The Kenyon defense got Otterbein to turn the ball over 33 times, while goalkeeper
Meredith Bentsen tied her season-high with nine saves.
In addition to the aforementioned trio, Kenyon also received multi-point games from Amato,
Alex Bair, and Alexandra Hamilton. Amato finished with two goals, Bair posted a goal and two assists, and Hamilton tacked on two more goals for good measure.
For Symmes, the game wasn't all about scoring. She also racked up nine groundballs, eight draw controls, and forced a couple of turnovers.
