SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – In what was a very tight North Coast Athletic Conference game Tuesday evening, the host Wittenberg University Tigers held on to defeat the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team. Four different players scored three goals for Wittenberg, which managed to hang on for a 15-13 victory.

Trailing 13-10 in the second half, Kenyon began to make a run. Senior Emily Nichols netted a goal at the 9:32 mark to get her Ladies team within two goals. Wittenberg responded, but then another Kenyon senior stepped up. This time it was Leah Sack who scored at the 6:07 mark and then assisted freshman Ansen Burr less than one minute later. That spurt got the Ladies within one goal, at 14-13, with a little more than five minutes remaining.

Down the stretch, it was the two goalkeepers who took over the game. Kenyon's Meredith Bentsen made three nice saves to keep the Ladies alive. At the other end, Katie Bondy stopped a Kenyon free-positions shot, as well as a follow-up shot, to keep the Tigers in front.

That final save from Bondy got the ball back in the hands of the Wittenberg offense, which scored an insurance goal with just 29 seconds left in the game. Bondy ended up seeing 30 Kenyon shots and made 13 saves. Bentsen faced 32 shots and made ten stops.

In the early stages of the game, there were three lead changes and five tied scores. Amy Morgan, Alex Bair, and Emily Nichols all scored a pair of first-half goals to help lift the Ladies to an 8-6 halftime lead. The advantage was short-lived, however, as the Tigers poured in the first four goals of the second half and never relinquished the lead thereafter.

Nichols ended up scoring a game-high four goals for Kenyon. That output gave her 24 goals for the season and 156 goals for her career. With that, she vaulted over Jessica Brown (154) and Kaley Bell (154) for third place all-time in Kenyon history. Nichols is now just eight goals shy of tying Amanda Drummond (164) for second place among the Ladies' leading goal-scorers.

Bair added three tallies for the Ladies, who fell to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in NCAC action. Burr, Morgan, and Sack all had two goals apiece. Sack also had four assists, giving her six points for the game, 34 points for the season, and 208 points for her career. She is now just two points away from tying Cary Loomis for Kenyon's all-time career record (210).

Wittenberg (5-2, 2-0 NCAC) got three goals apiece from Francine Murzynsk, Alie Marousek, Erin Guiliano, and Logan Warye.
