GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College senior
Leah Sack rang up one goal and five assists during the Ladies' Saturday afternoon 19-5 lacrosse victory over the visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops. The six-point game gave Sack a team-high 40 points on the season and a Kenyon record 214 points for her career.
Entering the game, Sack was just two points shy of the previous program record 210 points established by Cary Loomis. Within the first ten minutes of the game, Sack cleared the milestone. She first assisted on a goal scored by
Amy Morgan. She then tied the record with an assist on a goal scored by Katherine Lang at the 21:00 mark. Less than a minute after that, Sack delivered the record-breaking assist. This time it was to classmate
Emily Nichols, who scored at the 20:05 mark.
Sack's five assists Saturday added to her already-established Kenyon career record. She now has 132 career assists and is just seven short of tying the North Coast Athletic Conference record of 139 set by the College of Wooster's Beth Hemminger.
Sack was not the only one moving up the Kenyon charts. Nichols, who had three goals and two assists against Ohio Wesleyan, made her move up another rung on Kenyon's all-time leading goal-scorers' list. She now has 27 goals on the season and 159 for her career. Nichols now sits in third place with that total, which is just five goals away from tying Amanda Drummond's second-place mark of 164 career goals.
Kenyon (5-2, 2-1 NCAC) put the game away early by scoring the first three goals and then rattling off another five consecutive goals after the Bishops' first. That gave the Ladies an 8-1 lead with 17:53 still remaining in the first half. The Kenyon women went on to score four more times in the half and took a 12-4 lead into the break. After that, they gave up just one second-half goal to secure the conference win.
In addition to Sack's and Nichols' numbers, the Ladies also got another solid showing from freshman Jane Symmes, who posted four goals, seven draw controls, and three ground balls. Heather Amato,
Alex Bair,
Caroline Shipman, and Morgan all finished with two goals apiece for the Ladies, who will make a quick turn-around and host North Central College tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Ohio Wesleyan (2-8, 1-2 NCAC) was paced by Patricia Ryan. She had one goal and two assists.
