Box Score
GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College freshman
Tony Amolo scored two of the first three goals in Saturday's men's soccer game at Mavec Field. His production turned out to be all the Lords would need as they rolled to a 4-1 non-conference victory over the visiting University of Mount Union Purple Raiders.
Amolo didn't waste much time in getting right to work. A little more than three minutes into the contest, he used an assist from
Jeremiah Barnes to net the first of his two goals. Mt. Union (4-2-0) responded with its only goal of the game about three minutes later, but Amolo pushed the Lords back out front with an unassisted tally scored within the right side of the box.
Kenyon (3-2-0) kept pressuring the Purple Raiders' zone and broke through one more time before the half. After a couple of near misses, the Lords saw the ball bounce out to junior
Alex Christoff. He dribbled a bit inside the Mt. Union box and let a shot fly toward the left side of the Purple Raiders' net. Goalkeeper Dylan Lias got a hand on it, but did not stop it from crossing the goal line.
Kenyon went on to outshot Mt. Union, 22-3, giving up just two shots in the first half and one in the second. The Lords racked up ten shots in the second half with one of those being a header from junior defenseman
Sam Justice. Barnes set up the play, firing the ball in from the right side to the far post. Justice met it there and directed it home for his first goal of the year and Barnes' second assist of the game.
The Lords get little time to enjoy the win as they turn around and host Otterbein University on Sunday at 4 p.m. The Cardinals (3-2-0) come to Mavec Field after falling to Denison University, 2-0, Saturday.
