Box Score
GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's soccer team, in the midst of its first home stand of the 2013 season, defeated the Otterbein University Cardinals, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Mavec Field. The win was the second in as many days for Kenyon and bumped the Lords' overall record to 4-2-0.
After a somewhat even first half of play in which neither team managed to score, the Lords turned up the heat in the second half. In the game's 77th minute, junior
Grant Carney scored off a set piece for Kenyon. The play started with
Nate Petrou and Carney, a defender, finished it off for his first goal of the season.
As it turned out, that would be the only goal the Lords needed to secure victory, but it wasn't the only goal they scored. About 20 minutes after Carney's goal hit net,
Rei Mitsuyama tacked on an insurance goal for Kenyon. Freshman
Jordan Glassman set up the score with an excellent pass through the box and to the far post. Mitsuyama, a junior, was there to direct it into the net for his third goal of the season.
Kenyon outshot Otterbein 23-6, including a big 14-2 advantage in the second half. With Saturday's 4-1 win over Mt. Union taken into consideration, the Lords posted a lopsided 45-9 margin in total shots taken this weekend.
Kenyon has another home game on tap Wednesday. The Lords will host the Wilmington College Quakers at 5:15 pm.
