GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College field hockey team registered a goal in each half of Wednesday's home game against the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops. That proved to be more than enough as the Ladies defense took care of the rest in a 2-0 North Coast Athletic Conference win.
The Ladies defense has been nothing short of stellar lately. Wednesday, they allowed Ohio Wesleyan just three shots throughout the game. None of those shots were on goal. Although the shutout was the first of the season for Kenyon, the Ladies defense has not given up more than one goal in each of its last six contests.
At the other end of the field, junior
Sammy Johnston chalked up Kenyon's first goal. She collected a pass from sophomore
Maddie Breschi and uncorked a shot from the left side. Her shot slipped by OWU goalkeeper Karson Stevenson and found the right corner of the cage.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, the Kenyon women doubled their lead. With Breschi taking an initial shot, the ball ended up being deflected around the front of the Battling Bishops' cage. Junior
Rachel Hall then corralled the loose ball and chipped it over the goal line for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
The win was Kenyon's fourth in its last five games and moved the Ladies' records to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC. The loss dropped Ohio Wesleyan to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
