GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's soccer team continued its winning ways behind the leg of
Jordan Glassman plus another strong defensive showing against Capital University on Tuesday evening. Glassman put forth his second straight multi-goal game, while the defense pitched its second consecutive shutout to earn the Lords their seventh win of the season.
The Lords' 3-0 win over Capital extended their current consecutive win streak to five matches. This marks the longest winning streak since the 2010 season, when the Lords put together seven straight from Sept. 28 to Oct. 23. In Kenyon's last five matches, they have outscored their opponents 18-2 and pitched three shutouts.
Glassman, a freshman, has a nice-sized streak of his own in the making. With his two goals against Capital, he now has back-to-back matches with two goals and has five in his last three matches. He scored twice against The College of Mount St. Joseph and tallied his first collegiate goal against Wilmington College in games played last week.
Glassman scored his first goal off of a set piece when Sam Justice played it up into the box. Ben Alexander got airborne close to the near-side post and tapped it up to Glassman who sent a shot to the far side of the Crusaders' cage for the score. The goal was scored in the 55th minute of the contest.
Kenyon doubled up its lead with Glassman's second goal on an odd-angle shot taken from just outside the near post while falling away from the goal. After driving the ball to the endline, Glassman brought it back out and split two defenders. He then used a strong strike to beat Capital goaltender Bob Weisgarber, who came out to play the ball. Alistair Flynn was credited with an assist on the goal.
Aaron Salm scored the last Kenyon goal of the match, drawing a penalty as he drove toward the Capital goal to prompt a penalty kick. Salm converted on his own opportunity, shooting to Weisgarber's left, and tickling the twine for the first goal of his college career.
The Lords' defense kept Sam Clougher's hands clean for the most part. Capital attempted 13 shots, but only two were on goal. Clougher made both saves to keep the Crusaders off the board.
Conversely, Kenyon went on to put on 21 shots, landing seven on goal. The Lords also had the advantage on corner kicks, holding a 9-7 edge on Capital.
Glassman has quickly climbed the scoring ladder and now has a share of the team lead for goals scored with fellow freshman Tony Amolo with five. Amolo currently leads the team in points (12).
Kenyon will open NCAC play with its 7-2-0 record against DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, on Saturday afternnon.
