GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies field hockey team kept the opposing defense busy on Sunday in its North Coast Athletic Conference matchup against Oberlin College. In addition to owning a large shot advantage, the Ladies featured six different scorers in their 6-2 victory over the Yeowomen.
Kenyon held large advantages over Oberlin in most offensive categories in Sunday's win. The Ladies put more than three times as many shots as the opposition, tallying 33 to the Yeowomen's 10. They also drew more penalty corners with 19 to Oberlin's nine. With the Ladies holding possession of the ball for most of the contest, the offense created many scoring opportunities to get back on track in the win column.
Rachel Hall scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year to erase Oberlin's early one-goal lead. After receiving a pass from outside the scoring arc, Hall created her own shot by stopping on a dime and posted up for a quick shot from the far post which she directed to the near-side corner of the Oberlin cage. The goal was scored in the 14th minute, but was the first of more to come.
Alex Bair helped the Ladies take the lead for good with a hard-fought goal just short of the 16th minute of the match. The senior muscled her way through the Yeowomen defense and from close range, delivered a wrist shot to beat Oberlin goaltender Carmen Azevedo stick side. It was her second goal of the season.
Also scoring her second goal of the year was Hannah Drake. She put Kenyon's third goal on the board at 28:04 by cleaning up a rebound off of a shot initially taken by Bair.
A similar tale was told in the second half as each team matched their first-half output. Annie Hulkower, Christine Bloom, and Anna Petek all scored goals for the Ladies in the second half to aid their separation from Oberlin. Hulkower's goal was her first of the season poking a feed out in front of the net.
Drake was the lone Ladies player to register multiple points in the contest after also being credited an assist on Petek's redirection goal.
Kenyon (6-4, 4-2 NCAC) will continue its ongoing five-game homestand against The College of Wooster on Oct. 5. Play will begin at 12 p.m. from McBride Field.
